At We Kill Mould, everything starts with a survey, to identify and address damp, mould, and condensation issues.
We understand the challenges of maintaining properties, especially period homes, and we’re here to help.
To make things easy, we’ve created two levels of service: our Free Visual Survey and a more detailed Extended Survey, which is a paid investigation for complex cases.
Free Visual Survey
We believe in offering value upfront, which is why we provide a completely free, no-obligation initial survey. This typically lasts up to 15 minutes in person or 30 minutes remotely. During this time, one of our experts will if possible:
- Conduct a visual inspection of the affected areas.
- Use a thermal hygrometer to measure relative humidity (the moisture content in the air compared to its maximum capacity) and specific humidity (the total amount of water vapor in the air, regardless of temperature). These measurements help identify whether excess moisture or condensation is contributing to the problem.
- Discuss the findings and provide you with expert advice, including steps you can take to mitigate the issue.
- Offer a free, no-obligation quotation for any recommended work.
If the issue requires further investigation—such as identifying hidden damp, structural problems, or destructive exploration of walls or flooring—this will be explained during the free survey, and you’ll have the option to proceed with a paid for Extended Survey.
Paid For Extended Survey
Sometimes, mould, damp, or condensation issues are caused by hidden or complex problems that require a more thorough investigation. In these cases, we offer a detailed, chargeable survey that delves deeper into your property’s condition, using advanced tools and hands-on techniques to uncover the root cause of the problem.
Specialist Tools We Use
Our Extended Survey with in-depth investigations utilize cutting-edge diagnostic equipment:
- Thermal Imaging Camera: Detects hidden cold spots, water ingress, and insulation gaps that may be contributing to damp or mould.
- Surface Temperature Probe: Identifies condensation-prone areas and highlights insufficient insulation by measuring surface temperatures.
- Dielectric Moisture Meter: Non-invasively detects moisture levels deep within walls, floors, and ceilings, helping us pinpoint damp without unnecessary damage.
What the Investigation Involves
In addition to our advanced tools, this detailed survey includes physical work to access hidden areas and fully assess your property. Depending on the situation, this may involve:
- Inspecting Subfloor Voids: Examining ventilation and identifying potential blockages or areas of water pooling in spaces beneath floors.
- Removing Skirting Boards: Carefully removing skirting boards to access areas behind walls for signs of trapped moisture or water ingress.
- Lifting Manhole Covers: Checking drainage systems for blockages or leaks that may contribute to damp or rising moisture.
- External DPC Investigations: Assessing the condition of damp-proof courses (DPC) externally to identify any bridging or damage.
- Digging or Excavating: In cases where ground levels are too high, or water ingress is suspected, digging may be required to uncover the problem fully.
